TOCA TEACHER · Lesson 21 · Teaching

Dance homework that students actually do

Give four habits instead. One goal per night, connection or musicality, never everything at once. Re-listen to the music, spotting accents, breaks and silences. Film yourself, because what you feel and what the eye sees often differ. And dance with mixed levels.

Dawou Tarraxo, pioneer of Tarraxo. Dance homework that students actually do

Send them away with something they can actually do alone, because the progress that shows up next lesson was mostly built in the days between.

Assign one five minute practice task and follow it up next class.

One small task beats a long list, in kizomba as anywhere.
