How to assess progress without discouraging your dancers

You assess a student through their passive dance, not through the figures they can name. Watch them cruise, not perform.

Dawou Tarraxo, pioneer of Tarraxo. How to assess progress without discouraging your dancers

Absolute beginner, no passive dance yet, everything is construction. Beginner plus, the base exists but stutters, they need cues and repetition rather than new figures. Intermediate to advanced, the base is fluid, now you refine and build style on top.

Learn to place a student in seconds, then name what improved alongside the next priority. The right diagnosis is half the lesson.

Naming what improved is part of teaching kizomba, not flattery.

Make progress visible.
