TOCA TEACHER · Lesson 10 · Musicality

Teach musicality from the first dance class, not at the advanced level

It begins with hearing and holding the pulse. Then recognising phrases and changes. Then choosing how the body responds.

Dawou Tarraxo, pioneer of Tarraxo. Teach musicality from the first dance class, not at the advanced level

Beginners can listen long before they can perform complexity, so use simple movements with clear listening tasks. A plain walk with one musical instruction teaches more than a figure with none.

Do not wait for perfect technique to introduce listening. Technique and musicality grow together or they do not grow at all.

Musicality is trainable from day one in kizomba and tarraxo.
